~Morton's Star Command ~ 2005 Welsh National Chamption
The 2005 Welsh National Champion
It was my intention to one day begin a breeding program with a few select mares and one supreme stallion to bring back the superior athleticism that ponies posessed once upon a time. I saw too many ponies being bred for looks and style, but no heart. They would move pretty but lack the ability to 'wow' you with their jumping. My business partner and I imported "Star" from Canada as a foal, sight unseen. He was shown lightly on the Welsh Circuit as a 2 year old and proved himself to be practically unbeatable. He was double supreme champion his first show out at The Spring Fling Welsh Show in Delaware. From there, he earned mulitple supreme championships, including winning the Champion of Champions Qualifier Class in Syracuse which gave him his ticket to show in the prestigious class at the Royal in Canada. He rounded out the year as The 2005 Welsh National Champion with an unprecedented 600+ points in less than 11 shows. Star exhibits all the qualities in a pony I have been searching for and, in my eyes, truly personifies the definition of hunter pony excellence. He is now proving himself through his beautiful offspring.
Laurie Ann Occhipinti.....
I began riding at 2 years of age. At age 6 I moved into the pony hunters. By age 8, I was training and catch riding smalls and mediums. I trained with known professionals such as BJ Stiskin, Linda Shahinian, Jenny Martin-Rudaz, Mindy Minetto, Maxine Best, Gary Zook, David Nation, Heather Tinney, Michael Page, Janie Weber, and Lisa O'Neill, who I still train with today. One of my ponies was the famous small pony hunter, The Hobbit; virtually an unbeatable hack, and a contender for champion nearly every show out. Others included The Debutante, Golden Opportunity, Pac Man, Jazz Cat, and Silver Snaffles Excalibur.
I have taken my many years of knowledge and applied them to create a breeding program with my new stallion, Morton's Star Command - 2005 Welsh National Champion. His foals have started to hit the ground and will be out there showing on the line by 2007. The broodmares are of the older lineage that combine welsh, thoroughbred, and arab crosses. I hope to bring back some of the athleticism, movement, and jumping ability in these foals that has been lost throughout the years. So far, it looks to be successful.
I have devoted the last few years to buying a fleet of young ponies to bring up to the pony hunter division. They all possess those certain characteristics that will make them super deluxe ponies for a child; breeding, personality, movement, and conformation.
